Continue to Grow

“Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning.” Benjamin Franklin
I have been stressing to my children the importance of education since their birth into this life. My grandmother always told me if I want respect from someone, anyone, educate myself and know what I’m talking about. My speeches to young people have mostly centered on education, being a great human being and world citizen. And we must recognize the need for growth is continual. No breaks from learning or improving your skillset. This week I believe you should make a thank you call to a teacher, mentor or parent as I’m sure they pushed you to further educational pursuits or endeavors.

Pursue that Dream or Idea!

“Dreams are today’s answers to tomorrow’s questions.” (Edgar Cayce) As I think about ideas I have had in the past, each one had an answer for future developments. In 1995 I had an idea to launch a social website for kids. I purchased the domain name, had a logo professionally designed and built a webpage. I introduced it to the youth group in my church to further develop and dropped the ball once we purchased a new facility to renovate. Shortly thereafter MySpace took off among other sites and now the Facebook’s, LinkedIn’s and Twitter’s of the world dominate the social scene. I’m starting to think my original idea has a place or niche to fill. Stay tuned!

It takes COURAGE!

Courage is the mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, and difficulty. Courage is a way of life for all of us. It takes courage to tackle life’s trials and tribulations. You may not consider yourself courageous but each time you face an obstacle head on courage is on display. Some have given up and refuse to fight and it is the responsibility of the strong to defend the weak! “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9 (NKJV)

Get busy working on your Dream!

“Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.” Henry Ford
What are you working on right now? I know that’s a loaded question as most of us are working on several projects. Whether we are leading a project at work, in the community or at home it seems work has a mind of its own. But let’s start with the first thing that came to your mind when the question was posed. The answer gives us a clue into the commitment you have to your dream. If you are focused solely on work, church, family and whatever else comes to mind you are probably putting your dream on hold. If your answer focuses on steps to getting your LLC, Articles of Incorporation, joining a networking group you are probably in dream mode. Being in dream mode does not mean you have lost a commitment to family, church or work it simply means you have ordered your house to meet this objective, Building Your Dream.

What does the next Quarter of 2013 hold in store for you?

As I consider the direction of my business for the next quarter I have but one question, when will the economy show a strong bounce back or turnaround? Companies are still holding the purse strings very tightly and not much spending is in the offering right now. Washington, D.C. has not figured out its role in all of this and small to medium businesses are having an even tougher go of it. I think we should stay the course and not give up or give in as this season will change and the flowers will begin to bloom, birds will begin to sing and spring will bring about a sense of newness. Find networking groups that can help you connect with people that have a likeminded attitude. Stay on the cutting edge of innovation and better use the technology at your fingertips. Encourage your neighbor, friend, colleague and a stranger this week and see many smiles come your way in return. Change is on the way!

Finding where you belong…

Where do I belong? What should I be doing at this stage of my life? Why are things not going as well for me as they seem to be going for my contemporaries? These are a few questions that may cross your mind from time to time and if so, consider these notes. “If God leads he will meet the need and if He guides He will surely provide.” I would tell my church this every week. If you want to gauge where you are, look no further than needs being met and provision being established. Get on the same page with your destiny and that will help you discover where you belong. The definition for destiny is something that is to happen or has happened to a particular person or thing; lot or fortune. As for the question, what should I be doing? What makes you fulfilled and helping others along the way is the answer. Your contemporaries have challenges just different from yours and in a number of cases they would trade places with you if given a chance too. In other words, “the grass always seems greener on the other side of the fence”, but it needs to be cut and maintained just as your grass needs to be cut and manicured.

Are you motivated and do you motivate others?

“Motivation is everything. You can do the work of two people, but you can’t be two people. Instead, you have to inspire the next guy down the line and get him to inspire his people.” (Lee Iacocca) I think to some degree multilevel marketing follows this quote by Lee Iacocca and I believe it’s the job of every leader. To accomplish your goals requires help and you will not find sincere help without the ability to inspire and motivate others to carry out the vision. Learn the techniques of successful people apply those techniques and always remember this simple fact, success breeds success.

Find Your Voice…one of my recent speeches

Find Your Voice
Voice-a range of such sounds distinctive to one person, or to a type of person or animal: Her voice is commanding. The condition or effectiveness of the voice for speaking or singing: to be in poor voice.
*I need your help. My voice is very soothing and relaxing and may cause the person sitting next to you to fall asleep. Please wake them up when they begin to nod off. Thank You!
*I want to thank all Bay Area Californians. Silicon Valley helped me make the money I needed to find my Voice which is helping people around the globe. (Orphans Faith Home-Bishop Babu, etc.)
Successful-having succeeded in one’s endeavors, marked by a favorable outcome
Thinkers-a person who has a well-developed faculty for thinking, as a philosopher, theorist, or scholar
***Steps to finding Your Voice: (In no particular order)
*Volunteer: Find someone or some non-profit or not-for-profit organization to pour your expertise into. Someone somewhere needs you!
(Marc Benioff, CEO of salesforce.com once said, “Strange as it sounds, the best advice I ever received wasn’t about how to make money-but how to give it away.”)

-examples of volunteering… Meals on Wheels while in college, Missions around the world, Boys and Girls Clubs, clean teams in trashy areas.

*Take some risk: “Great Love and Great Achievements involve Great Risk”. –plaque on my wall.

*Become a Mentor-a trusted advisor. Jesus mentored 12 men and changed the world!

*Find a Mentor. “Your success or failure may hinge on your ability to connect with the right Mentor.”

*Don’t take No for an answer. “It’s never based on how you feel it’s an act of the will”

*Learn to receive. You cannot truly be a giver until you are an experienced receiver. If you do not received gifts from others you actually hinder their blessing.

“Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.” Mahatma Gandhi
“Who are the learned? They who practice what they know.” The Prophet Muhammad
“You can search throughout the entire universe for someone who is more deserving of your love and affection than you are yourself, and that person is not to be found anywhere. You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe deserve your love and affection.” Buddha
“It is better for a person to do his own duty, even if imperfectly, than to do another’s duty well performed.” Hindu Scripture, Bhagavad Gita Passages

“Those who refuse to place limitations upon themselves will always succeed.” -Thurgood Marshall
“Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.” – Thomas A. Edison
“It has been my experience that folks who have no vices have very few virtues.” – Abraham Lincoln
(Quotes from Executive Level Mentality for students at Foothill College, Thurgood Marshall Etc.)

Begin to Build Something

Building-to construct (especially something complex) by assembling and joining parts or materials
Dreams-a cherished hope; ambition; aspiration
As we can see from these definitions, Building YOUR Dream requires some imagination, work, dedication and the like. When trying to join parts of what you hope to accomplish, fine tuning through wise planning is required. Let me explain, if you desire to build a 10,000 square foot home in a certain city or county. You will need to seek out city or county specifications. In the area in which you wish to build the limit may be 7,000 square feet so if you still desire to live in that area your dream of a 10,000 square foot home will have to be compromised. It may not be a bad idea to adjust but it may be a better idea to consider another city or county that has very similar amenities. A dream can evolve and/or change over time. I once wanted to own an S-500 Mercedes-Benz. I still like the car but it’s no longer a key part of my dream being built. At this stage a Corvette and Ducati motorcycle with suffice. I recommend you be flexible and seek out mentors who have accomplish dreams they have pursued as you do not want or need to re-invent the wheel if you know what I mean.
Don’t delay putting the pieces into place and pursue your passion with a God-Inspired Purpose!
(I recommend you read the book “The Art of the Start” by Guy Kawasaki)
